About
Mrs. Andersen has been working in elementary schools for almost a decade! She earned her Masters Degree in Developmental Teacher Education from the University of California, Berkeley. Having taught in a number of school districts, she has embraced the life of an early educator, arriving home everyday with marker colors on her fingers and paint on her shoes. Her education philosophy, whittled down to one quote, might be from Vygotsky, "Talking is Thinking." She also believes that children are naturally intelligent, that what we say to children has a profound impact on their development, that the best learning is through authentic experience, and that learning should be purposeful, interactive, and engaging.
WritingIn this Kindergarten we use Lucy Calkins Writing Workshop Curriculum. We learn that writers think before they write, return to their work, add detail, edit, and share their stories.

MathIn our class, we use Investigations Math, combined with a workshop style of hands-on fun. Math is also incorporated into our daily study of calendar, time, and weather.
|
Literacy CentersLiteracy Centers are scaffolded small learning groups and are organized to meet the needs of individual learners. Each week we have Guided Reading, Phonics, and Whole Language activities embedded into centers.
|
Science & Social LifeWe use hands-on science activities, nature explorations, and studies of our communities to learn about our world. We also study being a social learner, gain awareness of our emotions, and actively practice kindness.
