The school year has begun for the fifteen amazing learners in Room 110! I am so proud of our community building and the practice we are doing together to learn in a group. We are each learning to do our best, give gentle reminders (quiet hand signals if we need something or want to help a friend), and working together to create a shared environment that promotes learning and friendship. The class voted on both a creature and two describing words and in doing so, chose a class name. We are The Awesome Loving Caterpillars. We also created our classroom rules through dialogue and brainstorming. We decided that in our room we will do our best to:
1. Be safe
2. Be a bucket filler (someone who is kind and helpful to those around him/her)
3. Be thoughtful (what a big idea from five year olds!)
We've posted our name and rules. Around these I will place our first self-portraits that we made using people color crayons.
So much fun awaits us this week as we continue our letter a day challenge, open more choice time play centers, launch Writing Workshop, Poetry, and Math workshop. Open House is September 17th and I hope to see our families come and share the classroom with us for an evening!
